** I received an ARC for an honest review **
Description
If you’re reading this, you’ve likely thought that the world would be a better place without you.
A single line of text, glowing in the darkness of the internet. Written by Ashley Lutin, who has often thought that, and worse, in the years since his wife died and his young son disappeared. But the peace of the grave is not for Ashley—it’s for those he can help. Ashley Lutin has constructed a peculiar ritual for those whose desire to die is at war with their yearning to live a better life.
Struggling to overcome his never-ending grief, one night Ashley connects with Jinx, who spins a tale both revolting and fascinating. This begins a relationship that traps the men in a tightening spiral of painful revelations, where long-hidden secrets are dragged, kicking and screaming, into the light.
Only through pain can we find healing. Only through death can we find life.
Summary
I had the honour of reading At Dark , I Become Loathsome, the latest novel from queer US horror author Eric LaRocca.
Review
At Dark, I Become Loathesome, is crafted with a deep honesty and a raw and compelling voice that resonates throughout this horror thriller engaging aspects of dark fiction and supernatural horror. The elegant and purposeful prose ensures every word packs a punch in this short novel. No word is ever wasted by LaRocca and its a style that maintains pace, interest and immersion in the storytelling and especially in this novel.
This novel discusses some highly emotional and triggering themes. This does not detract from the work as LaRocca handles such matters with great sensitivity by utilising incredible writing skill here.
At Dark, I Become Loathsome shows LaRocaa’s compelling writing to full advantage. This is a stark examination of humanity with all of that trauma, loss and awakening can twist the psyche. A great modern horror.
Conclusion
A highly recommended read! Fans of LaRoccca’s previous works will enjoy this current dark fiction and supernatural thriller. Bound to attract new fans of queer dark fiction and horror.
